GST tax invoices

Proper GST tax invoices,
every time

GST registered sole traders need more than a Word doc with a total at the bottom. Kwota puts Tax Invoice on the document, shows 15% GST separately, and carries your GST and IRD numbers — automatically.

How it works

Built for sole traders, not spreadsheets

01

Tax Invoice label and GST breakdown

Every GST invoice shows subtotal ex GST, 15% GST as its own line, and total inc GST — the layout IRD expects on a valid tax invoice.

02

Your GST and IRD numbers on every document

Add them once in Tax & GST settings. Quotes and invoices pick them up automatically — no retyping before every send.

03

Per-line GST control

Mark line items as GST taxable or not. Mixed jobs stay accurate without calculator app maths at 9pm.

04

Not GST registered yet?

Turn GST off in settings. Invoices go out without a tax invoice label or GST lines until you hit the threshold or choose to register.

05

PDF for your records and your client

Download or share a PDF tax invoice from the same document your client sees online — one source of truth.

Questions

Common questions

01

When do I need to register for GST?

Generally when turnover exceeds $60,000 in any 12-month period. Once registered, you charge 15% GST on taxable supplies and issue tax invoices. We're a document tool — check IRD or your accountant for your situation.

02

What's the difference between an invoice and a tax invoice?

A tax invoice includes your GST number and shows the GST amount separately. It's required for GST-registered suppliers so buyers can claim GST credits.

03

Can I turn GST off on one document?

GST applies at the line level. Turn off GST in settings if you're not registered, or mark individual lines as non-taxable when needed.

04

Does Kwota file my GST return?

No — Kwota creates compliant documents and Xero CSV export. You or your accountant handle filing with IRD.
